Landscaping FAQ
+ What is renovation?
Renovation replaces deteriorated turf with new, improved, better adapted grasses. By seeding improved varieties into the existing lawn, the strand is improved without the inconvenience and greater cost of re-establishing a brand new lawn.
+ When is the best time to seed or sod a lawn?
Answer: Early morning – 5 AM to 10 AM
Why? Because watering during the day usually evaporates and watering at night causes diseases
+ How much water do I need for a lawn?
Answer: Usually 1″ of rain a week.
+ When do I feed my lawn?
Answer: We recommend fertilizing every 5-6 weeks, or you can use our Full Maintenance Program for proper lawn care.
+ Why is sod more expensive than seed?
Answer: Sod costs more primarily due to the materials and labor involved in harvesting and installation. Each roll of sod (typically 18″ x 6′, covering 9 square feet) weighs between 40–60 lbs. To cover 1,000 square feet, you would need about 111 rolls, totaling around 5,550 lbs.—all of which must be laid by hand. This intensive process adds to the overall cost compared to simply spreading grass seed.
+ Why does sod sometimes die?
Answer: The most common reason sod fails is insufficient watering. Fresh sod requires consistent moisture to establish roots in the soil. Additionally, sod needs at least 65% sunlight exposure to thrive. If it’s placed in too much shade or isn’t watered properly, it may struggle to survive.Toggle Content
+ Are there different types of sod?
Answer: Yes and no. While most sod consists of Bluegrass and some Fescue, the specific blends can vary. Some sod may also contain different varieties of Rye and Bent grasses, depending on the climate and intended use. The right type of sod depends on factors like sun exposure, foot traffic, and maintenance preferences.
